My project is a sweat-absorbing bandana. This was really simple, and it'll go a long way towards keeping the sweat from dripping into my eyes and my head from getting hot due to my dark hair soaking up the rays from the sun.
1 large bandana (22" x 22")
An old towel (just a strip from it)
Sewing machine and thread
I chose a white bandana to help reflect some of the sun's rays. My hair gets so hot (and starts to burn my scalp) if I spend too much time in the sun. I wear a hat when it's convenient, but that isn't always the case, especially when it's hot and you're sweating.
I folded the bandana in half diagonally and tied it to my head like you would any other bandana. I tied mine a little loose since this had not been pre-washed and might shrink the first time I wash it. I pulled it off my head (leaving it tied) and marked approximately where the ties ended.
I sewed the strip in place using a zig-zag stitch and making sure to stretch the towel while sewing (the towel I used had a little bit of stretch to it). I didn't sew all the way to the ends of the strip, leaving about an inch or more un-sewn. the reason for this is to give it room to tie without tying towel into it.
And you're done. The towel and the bandana will both absorb sweat, and you can toss it in the wash when you're finished with whatever nasty, sweaty chore you are trying to accomplish. I plan on using the black bandana to make another one to wear under my sun hat or while cleaning the house.
